Luigi’s Paradise

As I drive through Yoshi’s Valley of death
I take a look at my life and realize there’s nothin’ left
Cause I’ve been drifting and blasting so long,
That even mama-mia thinks that my mind is gone
But I ain’t never crossed a turtle that didn’t deserve it
Me be treated like a punk you know that’s unheard of
You better watch how you’re staring and where you’re driving
Or you and your homies might be blue-shelled in shock
I really hate to trip but I gotta look
As they croak, I see myself in the Bob-omb’s smoke
Fool, I’m the Luigi the little homies wanna be like
On my knees in the night saying prayers in the streetlight

Now they’re spending most their lives, living in Luigi’s paradise
Will be spending most their lives, living in Luigi’s paradise
Keep spending most our lives, living in Luigi’s paradise
Just spending most our lives, living in Luigi’s paradise

Look at the situation they got me facin’
I can’t live a normal life, I was raised for the kids
So I gotta be down with the good team
Too much Super Mario watching got me chasing dreams
I’m a pasta-eatin’ fool with revenge on my mind
Got my shell in my hand and a gleam in my eye
I’m a lucked-out plumber set trippin’ banger
And my year is down so don’t arouse my anger, fool
Death ain’t nothing but a heartbeat away,
I’m living life, do or die, what can I say
I’m 23 now, but will I live to see 24
The way things are going I don’t know

Tell me why are we so blind to see
That the ones we hurt are you, not me

Now they’re spending most their lives, living in Luigi’s paradise
Will be spending most their lives, living in Luigi’s paradise
Keep spending most our lives, living in Luigi’s paradise
Just spending most our lives, living in Luigi’s paradise

Flower and the money, money and the flower
Minute after minute, hour after hour
Everybody’s cruising, but half of them ain’t looking
What’s going on in slipstream, but I know what’s cookin’
They say I gotta learn, but nobody’s here to teach me
If they can’t understand it, how can they reach me
I guess they can’t, I guess they won’t
I guess they’re in front, that’s why I know their life is out of luck, fool

Been spending most their lives, living in Luigi’s paradise
Been spending most their lives, living in Luigi’s paradise
Keep spending most our lives, living in Luigi’s paradise
Keep spending most our lives, living in Luigi’s paradise

Tell me why are we so blind to see
That the ones we hurt are you, not me
Tell me why are we so blind to see
That the ones we hurt are you, not me

asks:
My mother doesn't seem to get that, no matter what 9-5 job I have, my ultimate goal is to be a writer. I'm not yet published, of course, and so she keeps telling me I "don't make money off of writing and shouldn't be wasting time on it," and when I tell her that I WILL make money off of writing once I'm published she won't hear it. But then when I enter writing contests, she asks to read my stories and loves them. I don't get why she does that, and it gets really frustrating. Any advice?

neil-gaiman:

My father was in New York for the 2005 Union Square signing for ANANSI BOYS. He came down to watch the signing. My agent went and said hello to him. They watched the crowds together.

"You must be very proud of him," said my agent.

"I am," he said.

"But you must have always known it would be like this," said Merrilee.

"He wanted to be a writer," said my dad. "I thought I’d be supporting him until he died, or got a real job…"

…advice? Well, if you never write, then she’s automatically right. You won’t ever be a writer. If you DO write, then at least you have a chance…

Godzilla was a tragic story of love and betrayal

I just watched Godzilla yesterday with the girlfriend and I was wondering why the big guy had such a hard-on against the two MUTOs (well, one was technically a MUNETO — Massive Unidentified Not-Exactly Terrestrial Organism — but I digress). The official explanation was that Godzilla’s race and the MUTOs had always been at war with each other ever since the beginning or something but I think that doesn’t really explain why Godzilla would have this single-minded purpose of destroying the MUTOs. He was shot at, tailed, and attacked by the humans and yet he continued almost unflinchingly to his goal. There is only one reason I can think of for this and that is to Godzilla, this whole thing was personal.

I think hundreds of millions of years ago, Godzilla and the female MUTO were lovers and the male MUTO was Godzilla’s best friend. Everything went swimmingly for a couple hundred years until one day, fresh from hunting, Godzilla came home to find that his best friend and his wife were doing the dirty in his own bed/nest/cave/whatever. Enraged, Godzilla was about to kick a serious can of whup-ass at his former BFF but his wife attacked him from behind, causing him to fall down and get trapped in some primeval pit or something. Betrayalton! Before he was swallowed up, however, Godzilla uttered a curse at the traitorous duo telling them that as long as he lives, they will continue existing until he himself would put an end to their treachery.

Flash forward to 1954 and Godzilla, still trapped, was finally awoken and set free by a military accident. A stranger in a strange land, he swam aimlessly around the Pacific, getting bombed around by humans.

In 1999, the two MUTOs were reincarnated in this age and the male MUTO went to Japan to hibernate, causing the reactor accident that killed Walter White’s wife and which was abruptly covered up and attributed to an earthquake. During all this, a strange consistent reading kept coming up and years later, Walter White discovered that the signals they observed during the reactor accident was actually some sort of echolocation communication. It was the ex-BFF calling out to the ex-wife to continue their illicit affair!

Godzilla, finally discovering that his traitorous former friend had appeared, tracked him down to San Francisco, where BFF met with the ex (that scene where he was sharing that nuclear missile with her was one of most romantic scenes in the movie, IMO). Godzilla, seeing the pair again, proceeded to finish what he started hundreds of millions of years ago and exact righteous revenge against the betrayers.

It is a sad story that is as old as time. It certainly explains Godzilla’s particularly single-minded desire to destroy the duo; the movie made it plain that Godzilla wasn’t inherently destructive — otherwise, he would have already leveled cities in the Pacific since 1954. It would also explain why Godzilla just peacefully ambled back to the city after killing the two MUTOs, ignoring the creatures who tried to kill it hours before; after finishing what he started, I could only assume that killing his best friend and his ex-lover would have a heavy toll on his heart — that famous roar really seemed like the cry of a creature whose heart was emotionally and internally destroyed by betrayal. I mean, listen to it! That was practically an emo love song!

Lastly, I would like to point out the way Godzilla killed the female MUTO. He stretched her mouth wide and proceeded to blow fiery blue death on it. I don’t know about you, but that pose seemed like a final kiss (of death) to me! That was him telling her, “This is for all the times I’ve loved you; this is my love finally ending us! Goodbye…heart of my heart! (tears).

So yeah, the real story wasn’t Kick-Ass’ love with his family and their reunification amidst destruction, or the triumph of human spirit, or how the US military can’t grasp how an MP5 won’t have any chance of felling a 108-meter angry god. The real story was Godzilla’s betrayal and his quest for vengeance, and a tragic love triangle that spanned hundreds of millions of years.

Unending Love

I seem to have loved you in numberless forms, numberless times…
In life after life, in age after age, forever.
My spellbound heart has made and remade the necklace of songs,
That you take as a gift, wear round your neck in your many forms,
In life after life, in age after age, forever.

Whenever I hear old chronicles of love, its age-old pain,
Its ancient tale of being apart or together.
As I stare on and on into the past, in the end you emerge,
Clad in the light of a pole-star piercing the darkness of time:
You become an image of what is remembered forever.

You and I have floated here on the stream that brings from the fount.
At the heart of time, love of one for another.
We have played along side millions of lovers, shared in the same
Shy sweetness of meeting, the same distressful tears of farewell-
Old love but in shapes that renew and renew forever.

Today it is heaped at your feet, it has found its end in you
The love of all man’s days both past and forever:
Universal joy, universal sorrow, universal life.
The memories of all loves merging with this one love of ours –
And the songs of every poet past and forever.

I joke all the time about how the tumblr fandom consists of an entire twelve people but now I’m genuinely curious, so do the thing.
